A printed poplin for your garment
For a fabric like this floral poplin, send the print reference and metres required, with the intended garment and target price.
Specifying poplin on a tech pack
- Supply and style
- State whether the enquiry is for fabric or finished garments. Name the intended style.
- Fibre content
- List each fibre and its percentage.
- Warp and weft counts
- Write warp first, then weft, and name the count system. Use the yarn count converter for Ne, tex and Nm.
- Ends and picks
- Give both densities with their units. ISO 7211-2 counts threads per centimetre; multiply by 2.54 to express the result per inch.[1][2]
- Finished GSM
- Specify grams per square metre, measured by ISO 3801. The GSM calculator calculates weight from a cut piece.[3]
- Usable width
- Give the cuttable width in centimetres.
- Colour or print
- Include the colour reference or print artwork.
- Finish and shrinkage
- Name the finish and the permitted length and width change after washing.
- Quantity and target price

Send this as a brief→Poplin versus Oxford for a shirt
Poplin
A slight ridge gives poplin its surface pattern, usually in the weft direction.

Oxford
Paired warp yarns weave over and under individual weft yarns, giving the shirt a 2 × 1 basket surface.
For a diagonal weave, see twill.

Common questions about poplin
Is poplin the same as cotton?
No. Cotton names the plant fibre; a poplin specification also needs the fibre content. See cotton for fibre choices.
What GSM is 40s poplin?
40s alone does not give a fabric GSM. If the count system is Ne, 40s means forty lengths of 840 yards per pound of yarn. Fabric weight also depends on yarn crimp and the ends and picks. Specify the finished GSM separately.
Can you supply poplin fabric on its own?
Yes. We supply poplin by the metre to garment makers.
Can you supply organic cotton poplin?
Yes. We source organic cotton poplin as fabric or finished garments to your brief. Every order ships to the standards your programme requires. See organic cotton and certifications.
What do you need to quote a poplin shirt or dress?
Send the shirt or dress reference, quantity and target price. Include an existing fabric specification with the enquiry.
