Specifying voile on a tech pack
- Opacity and lined areas
- State the expected opacity. Mark which areas remain sheer and which are lined, or specify an unlined garment.
- Lining reference
- Give the lining fabric reference and its composition where lining is specified.
- Fibre content
- State each fibre and its percentage.
- Weight (GSM)
- Give the target grams per square metre or a fabric reference. Specify ISO 3801 for fabric mass per unit area.[1]
- Yarn counts and twist
- Give the warp and weft counts with their units and the required twist. Use the yarn count converter for count conversions.
- Ends and picks
- Give the warp and weft threads per centimetre. Specify ISO 7211-2 for the thread count.[2]
- Width
- State the cuttable width.
- Colour or print
- Give the colour reference, or the artwork with its colours and repeat.
- Finish
- Name the required finish.
- Garment and quantity
- Name the garment and quantity. State whether the enquiry is for fabric or finished garments.

- Include the target price for the fabric or garment.

Is voile the same as cotton?
No. Cotton names the fibre; voile names the cloth.
What types of cotton voile do you supply?
We supply plain and printed cotton voile. Other fibre blends are sourced to your brief.
Can we order voile fabric without finished garments?
Yes. We supply voile fabric on its own, by the metre, to garment makers.
Is voile the same as chiffon or organza?
No. Chiffon is a very lightweight, sheer plain weave made from fine, tightly twisted yarns. Organza uses filament yarns.
Can voile carry chikankari embroidery?
Yes. Voile is a base for chikankari embroidery.
