Fine or chunky acrylic knit

Finer yarn

Small V-shaped stitches give the plain knit a finer look.

Two camel stockinette panels, with finer yarn and smaller stitches on the left and coarser yarn and larger stitches on the right

Coarser yarn

The same plain-knit structure looks chunkier with larger V-shaped stitches.

In Ne, a higher count means a finer yarn. Include the count system when you specify the yarn.

Common questions about acrylic

Can we buy acrylic fabric or sweater yarn separately?

Yes. You can order knitted acrylic fabric by the metre or the catalogue sweater yarn on its own.

What GSM should we specify for acrylic knitwear?

Specify the GSM of the chosen knitted quality. GSM expresses fabric mass per square metre. Give a separate finished garment weight where required, with the size it applies to.

How does acrylic compare with polyester for clothing?

Acrylic is widely used in knitted apparel such as sweaters. Polyester is used across apparel, including blends. See polyester for its garment choices and recycled fibres for recycled-content specifications.

How should acrylic knitwear be washed?

Wash in lukewarm water, then blot and drip-dry the knit. Hot water may yellow acrylic.

How long does an acrylic knitwear sample take?

The first knitwear sample takes 4 to 10 days from an agreed brief.
