Colour changes across successive knitted courses form horizontal bands. Specify each stripe width and the full repeat height for the garment.

Include a colour reference for every band.

## How yarn is dyed

For package dyeing, yarn is wound on perforated cones or spools. The dye bath flows through the wound yarn.

Hank dyeing colours yarn in skeins.

## Common questions about yarn dyeing

### Can you supply yarn-dyed T-shirts and polos?

Yes. We supply yarn-dyed [T-shirts](/products/t-shirts) and [polos](/products/polo-shirts). Combed Y/D Stripes at 145 g/m² is a 100% cotton example in the [fabric catalogue](/products/fabrics).

### Can we buy yarn-dyed fabric without ordering garments?

Yes. We supply yarn-dyed fabric separately, by the metre, for garment makers.

### What do piece-dyed and garment-dyed mean?

Piece dyeing colours woven or knitted cloth; [garment dyeing](/techniques/garment-dyeing) colours completed garments.

### How do we choose yarn-dyed fabric for summer or winter?

Specify the base cloth for the season, including its fibre, construction, GSM and finish. For knits, structure affects thermal properties and weight is linked to heat resistance. See [cotton](/materials/cotton), [single jersey](/materials/single-jersey) and [linen](/materials/linen) for cloth options.
