[Request a similar style→](/contact) ## What makes a polyester knit wick? ### Plain polyester knit Polyester fibres absorb little moisture. Put sweat transport on the brief as a separate requirement. Two slate polyester knit squares, with a beaded water drop on the left and a spreading wet patch on the right ### Wicking-finished knit Wicking depends on the knit structure and a hydrophilic finish. Liquid can wick through capillary spaces between fibres. Specify and test transport towards the outer face on the finished quality. Specify the moisture-management result required on the finished fabric and the laundering stage for testing. ## Woven and knitted polyester blends These catalogue qualities are examples for a fabric enquiry. [Request a similar fabric→](/contact) ## Specifying polyester on a tech pack - **Garment or fabric reference**: Include the style or reference quality, quantity and target price. - **Fibre content and recycled share**: List each fibre percentage and the required recycled content. - **Construction**: Name the knit or weave, or attach a fabric reference. - **Finished GSM and usable width**: State the finished weight in g/m² and usable width in centimetres. - **Yarn specification**: Give filament or spun yarn, yarn count and filament fineness where specified. - **Stretch and recovery**: Set the required extension and recovery, with the test conditions. - **Finish and colour**: Name the finish and colour reference for each quality. - **Performance and testing**: Set the moisture-management or air-permeability requirement. Include the method, pass level and any post-laundering stage. State the recycled share required in the fabric composition. Set an air-permeability requirement for the selected fabric. Air permeability and wicking are separate properties; include both requirements if the garment needs both. ### Is microfibre the same as polyester? No. Microfibre can also be polyamide. Specify the fibre as well as the filament fineness. ### What does cotton add to a polyester blend? Cotton adds absorbency alongside polyester's resistance to wrinkling and shrinkage. Include composition, recycled share, construction, finished GSM, usable width, finish and colour to price the quality you need. ### Can we buy polyester fabric without ordering garments? Yes.
