## Woven or knitted jacquard?

### Woven jacquard

Woven jacquard carries fine detail in figured designs. Specify the surface and motif detail for the garment.

Indigo and ecru leaf-pattern jacquard swatches, woven on the left and knitted on the right

### Single-knit jacquard

The pattern takes shape in knitted loops. Specify the knit structure; [single jersey](/materials/single-jersey) is one fabric option.

Include the required face and reverse appearance in the fabric brief.

## Quote a jacquard for the garment

Send the garment, a pattern reference and the quantity. Include the repeat size and yarn colours if known.

## Dobby vs jacquard

### Dobby

Dobby usually gives small geometric repeats, for a repeated motif across the garment.

Navy and ecru woven swatches, with small dobby diamonds on the left and a large jacquard floral on the right

### Jacquard

Jacquard can carry intricate detail across a large repeat, for a larger figure in the garment design.

The [fabric catalogue](/products/fabrics) also includes cotton self dobby.

## Common questions about jacquard

### Does jacquard mean the fabric is cotton?

No. The name does not identify the fibre content. Specify the fibre percentages when matching a fabric reference.

### Can you source a 180 GSM leaf jacquard?

Yes, to your brief. Include the required composition and construction with the leaf-pattern reference and fabric quantity.

### What is a jacquard dress?

It is a dress made from jacquard cloth. We make it to your garment pattern and fabric brief.

### How do we specify brocade or damask?

Include a fabric reference with the name. Brocade patterns can use supplementary weft, warp, or both. For either cloth, specify the required face and reverse appearance.

### How should we specify care for a jacquard garment?

Specify care for the complete garment, including any fixed lining and trims.

### Can you source jacquard for a summer or winter range?

Yes. Include the season and intended garment use in the sourcing brief.

### Can we order jacquard fabric without garments?

Yes. We supply jacquard fabric on its own, by the metre, to garment makers.
