# Thailand Apparel Labelling: The Thai-Language Consumer Label

Published 24 July 2026

For label-controlled goods sold in Thailand, the Consumer Protection Act B.E. 2522's label notification specifies the information a controlled label must carry. For label-controlled imported goods, the label must state the country of production; the general notification also requires the specified identity, manufacturing-date and baht-price information. [\[1\]](https://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2565/E/114/T_0035.PDF "Source 1: ratchakitcha.soc.go.th: /DATA/PDF/2565/E/114/T_0035.PDF")

That breadth is the working reality of a Thailand-bound label: getting the fibre content right is only one part of the job. A label-controlled imported good must state its country of production and price in baht, while the notification separately requires the applicable Thailand-registered producer and importer-or-ordering-party name or trademark. For a label-controlled good sold in Thailand, label text must be in Thai or in Thai accompanying a foreign language; the rule does not apply to goods produced for export and not sold in Thailand. A manufacturing date is required; only an expiry date or best-before date is limited to goods with a usable life. For the shared groundwork on label version control, see our [garment labelling guide](/blog/2026/06/garment-labelling-care-label-export-requirements).

## What must appear on an apparel label sold in Thailand?

The general label notification lists the following content for a label-controlled good: [\[2\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/images/140D038S0000000002601.pdf "Source 2: ocpb.go.th: /images/140D038S0000000002601.pdf")

## Is Thai-language labelling mandatory on every garment sold in Thailand?

For a label-controlled good sold in Thailand, label text must be in Thai, although a foreign language may accompany it. The notification also sets a minimum character height, generally 2 mm, reduced to 1.5 mm where the total label area is below 35 square centimetres, so the required text has to be visible and readable at that scale wherever the controlled-label information is permissibly displayed. [\[3\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/news_view.php?nid=9760 "Source 3: ocpb.go.th: news view.php?nid=9760")

## Who administers Thailand's label-controlled goods notification?

The notification assigns its administration to the Secretary-General of the Consumer Protection Board. Label review should therefore be included in the approval timeline alongside fabric and construction approval. [\[4\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/news_view_plan.php?nid=14821 "Source 4: ocpb.go.th: news view plan.php?nid=14821")

## What Thai-registered identity does an imported garment need?

For imported goods, the label must carry the name or Thai-registered trademark of the importer or the person ordering manufacture, along with that party's address. This is a stronger requirement than a general manufacturer-name field: the identity named on the label has to be Thai-registered, which means the correct entity and its registration status should be confirmed before artwork is finalised, not treated as a formality once the shipment is already in transit. [\[2\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/images/140D038S0000000002601.pdf "Source 2: ocpb.go.th: /images/140D038S0000000002601.pdf")

## Does Thailand require fibre-composition percentages or a fibre tolerance?

We prepare fibre-content declarations with percentage and tolerance detail when your programme calls for them. [\[5\]](https://a.tisi.go.th/t/?n=8465 "Source 5: a.tisi.go.th: /t/?n=8465")

We prepare fibre-content declarations to the programme's confirmed requirements and include the general label-controlled-goods content in the artwork pack. [\[5\]](https://a.tisi.go.th/t/?n=8465 "Source 5: a.tisi.go.th: /t/?n=8465")

## Is there a mandatory care-symbol standard, and what applies to children's clothing?

We prepare Thai-language care instructions in text, care symbols, or both, to match your programme. The general notification requires instructions for use and recommendations for use or storage.

For children's clothing, we check cords and drawstrings against the approved construction brief. [\[6\]](https://www2.tisi.go.th/data/stories/ib_product_cert/pdf/IB_LAB_2301-XXXX.pdf "Source 6: www2.tisi.go.th: /data/stories/ib_product_cert/pdf/IB_LAB_2301-XXXX.pdf")

## Where does a generic export label fall short for a Thailand-bound shipment?

A label for another market may omit Thai controlled-label information, including the required identity, manufacturing-date and baht-price fields; country of production is required for imported goods.

## How should a Thailand-bound label be approved before bulk?

Confirm the required Thailand-registered name or trademark and the required place of establishment before finalising artwork; the notification does not make the address a Thailand-registration field. For an imported label-controlled good, state the country of production. Price is typically among the last fields settled, so build it into the label template early rather than reworking artwork once the figure is confirmed.

Send the artwork team one market-label instruction sheet before label sampling starts. It should carry the required producer or importer/orderer name or trademark, that party's place of establishment, the origin statement, product description, and the confirmed source for each date and price field. Give each unresolved item an owner: the importer approves the Thai copy and retail price; production planning confirms the manufacture-date format; QC checks the sampled label against sealed artwork on the garment. Freeze the Thai copy before label trim is ordered. A later change to the named entity or address needs a new trim proof and can hold bulk release after the garment itself is approved.

Before issuing the trim purchase order, send the factory a style-by-style label matrix rather than a single master copy. Identify the label position, label size, fold or heat-transfer method, style and colourway, and whether price and date will be preprinted or applied from a controlled variable field. The artwork team uses that matrix to prevent a Thailand variant being attached to another destination's style; the buyer signs it with the bulk label proof. Keep price changes after proof approval within the agreed artwork-change window, because a new price can require a new proof, production release and inspection check.

## Short FAQ

**Is a Thai-language label mandatory for apparel sold in Thailand?**

For a label-controlled good sold in Thailand, text must be in Thai or in Thai accompanying a foreign language, and must meet the prescribed character-height rule. [\[3\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/news_view.php?nid=9760 "Source 3: ocpb.go.th: news view.php?nid=9760")

**Does a Thailand-bound label need to state a manufacture date?**

**Is fibre-composition percentage a confirmed mandatory field in Thailand?**

We prepare fibre-content declarations with percentage and tolerance detail when your programme calls for them.

**What are the penalties for a missing or incomplete label in Thailand?**

Penalty exposure should be assessed against the applicable Consumer Protection Act provisions before placing goods on the market. [\[4\]](https://www.ocpb.go.th/news_view_plan.php?nid=14821 "Source 4: ocpb.go.th: news view plan.php?nid=14821")

## The Thailand label judgement

For a label-controlled good, the notification requires the listed consumer-information fields, including product type, identity, location, use instructions, manufacturing date and baht price; country of production is required for imported goods. Confirm the Thailand-registered name or trademark and the separate place-of-establishment information early, and include fibre-percentage declaration and care instructions in the confirmed label brief when your programme calls for them. Ensure the required Thai text is visible, readable and at the prescribed character height wherever the controlled-label information is permissibly displayed.

## Placing a Thailand-bound programme

A tech pack, the confirmed Thailand-registered name or trademark, place-of-establishment information, order quantity and label artwork are what we need to quote a Thailand-bound programme with label preparation and approval included in the cost. For the wider regional picture, our [Southeast Asia](/markets/southeast-asia) page sets out how Thai-language label information is fixed during development, and our [private label](/services/private-label) programme is where the required identity and label artwork get confirmed before development samples are cut.
