# Argentina Apparel Labelling: The MERCOSUR Rule, CUIT and a Sizing System Still Taking Shape

Textile apparel within the regulation's scope and intended for commercialisation in Argentina is governed by Resolución N° 549/2021 of the Secretaría de Comercio Interior, which incorporates the MERCOSUR technical regulation on textile labelling, MERCOSUR/GMC Resolución N° 62/2018, into Argentine law. A textile product includes one composed exclusively of textile fibres or filaments, and one whose mass is at least 80% textile fibres or filaments. Resolución N° 287/2000, the previous national rule, has been expressly repealed. Resolución N° 156/2024 later amended the market-control and sanctions provisions that sit alongside the labelling content itself. The Dirección Nacional de Reglamentos Técnicos verifies compliance in the internal market. The regulation requires an indication of size or dimensions, as applicable, but does not set out a national size chart. For the shared groundwork on fibre and care labelling generally, see our [garment labelling guide](/blog/2026/06/garment-labelling-care-label-export-requirements).

## What must appear on an apparel label sold in Argentina?

Five fields are required for textile products of national or foreign origin destined for commercialisation: the name, business name or qualifying registered trademark of the national manufacturer, importer, exclusive brand or business-name user, or licence holder, together with its tax identification; country of origin, in the form "Hecho en," "Fabricado en" or "Industria" plus the country adjective; generic fibre names and mass percentages; care treatment; and size or dimensions. The information must be in the language of the country of consumption, may be supplemented by other languages, and must be permanent, easy to see and at least 2 mm high. [\[1\]](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/resoluci%C3%B3n-549-2021-350418/actualizacion "Source 1: argentina.gob.ar: /normativa/nacional/resolución-549-2021-350418/actualizacion")

The regulation exempts the products listed in its Appendix B. It also allows the information to appear on one part of a set that can only be sold as a unit where every part has the same information, and provides specific product and packaging exceptions. In all other cases, it must be fixed permanently in a readily visible place on each product unit or fraction.

Label field

Argentine requirement

Production record to use

Responsible-party name and tax identification

National manufacturer, importer, exclusive brand or business-name user, or licence holder, plus tax ID

Legal entity and tax-identification record

Country of origin

"Hecho en," "Fabricado en" or "Industria" plus country adjective

Confirmed origin record

Fibre content

Generic names and mass percentages, descending order

Final fabric and component specification

Care treatment

Per NM ISO 3758:2013, in sequence

Confirmed care treatment

Size or dimensions

On the permanent information medium, subject to product and packaging exceptions

Applicable size or dimensions record

A note on origin wording specifically: economic-bloc names and flags are not sufficient on their own. The label needs the country adjective itself, not a regional or bloc-level substitute for it.

## How does Argentina's fibre-composition and tolerance rule work?

Fibres are declared in descending order and with equal prominence. A tolerance of 2% for other fibres applies only where it is technically unavoidable in good manufacturing practice and is not added systematically; it rises to 5% for products made by carding on the same conditions. A further analysis tolerance of plus or minus 3% applies to each fibre separately in a mixture, but not to those tolerances, virgin or sheared wool, or an 85% declaration. Fibres individually below 5%, or collectively below 15%, may be described as "otra fibra" or "otras fibras" only where they cannot readily be determined at manufacture. A fibre present at 85% or more may be stated either by its actual percentage or as "85% como mínimo," with no tolerance below. "Lana virgen" or "lana de esquila" cannot include recovered wool and has a separate 0.5% impurity tolerance where technically justified. Different parts of a garment generally require separate composition declarations, except for an individual part that is no more than 30% of the garment's total mass; that exception does not apply to linings. [\[1\]](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/resoluci%C3%B3n-549-2021-350418/actualizacion "Source 1: argentina.gob.ar: /normativa/nacional/resolución-549-2021-350418/actualizacion")

Composition scenario

Argentine treatment

General extraneous-fibre tolerance

2%, or 5% for carded products, only where technically unavoidable and not systematically added

Mixture analysis tolerance

Plus or minus 3% per fibre

Fibre below 5%, or collectively below 15%

May be described as "otra fibra/otras fibras" where it cannot readily be determined at manufacture

Fibre at 85% or more

Stated by percentage or as "85% como mínimo", with no tolerance below

Lana virgen/lana de esquila

No recovered wool; 0.5% impurity tolerance only where technically justified

Different parts of the same garment

Separate declaration, except for an individual part of no more than 30% of total mass; linings remain covered

## Is there a mandatory care-information standard in Argentina?

Yes. Care information must follow NM ISO 3758:2013 and cover, in sequence, washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional textile care. Symbols, text, or both are permitted. Where symbols are used, each must occupy an imaginary square of at least 16 mm², in addition to being equally prominent, easily legible and clearly visible. ## What does the responsible-party and tax-identification requirement mean for a shipment?

The national manufacturer, importer, exclusive brand or business-name user, or licence holder must be identified by name, business name or a qualifying registered trademark, together with its tax identification. The manufacturer is responsible for products made nationally and the importer for products made abroad; producers, packers, those arranging packing or manufacture, fractioners and importers are responsible for the truth of the label information. Other participants in the supply chain must require their suppliers to provide the prescribed label information. ## What size information is required on apparel in Argentina?

The MERCOSUR textile-labelling regulation requires an indication of the size or dimensions, as applicable. It does not prescribe a particular size chart or label design. Prepare the label with the applicable size or dimensions for the product and check that this information is permanent, easy to see and at least 2 mm high. [\[3\]](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/decreto-375-2021-350787/texto "Source 3: argentina.gob.ar: /normativa/nacional/decreto-375-2021-350787/texto")

## What applies to children's apparel in Argentina?

For children's textiles within the regulation's scope, the same mandatory information applies: responsible-party identification and tax identification, country of origin, fibre composition, care treatment, and size or dimensions. The regulation also contains specific exclusions for listed textile products, so product scope should be checked before applying the five-field structure. [\[1\]](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/resoluci%C3%B3n-549-2021-350418/actualizacion "Source 1: argentina.gob.ar: /normativa/nacional/resolución-549-2021-350418/actualizacion")

## What happens if an Argentina-bound label is inaccurate or incomplete?

The Dirección Nacional de Reglamentos Técnicos, within the Secretaría de Industria y Comercio of the Ministry of Economy, conducts internal-market verification against Resolución 549. Non-compliance is sanctioned under Decreto N° 274/2019 and, where applicable, Ley N° 24.240 and its amendments. Products must also be made, imported, distributed and marketed so that they do not present risks to consumer or user safety, independently of compliance with the labelling requirements. [\[2\]](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/decreto-274-2019-322236/texto "Source 2: argentina.gob.ar: /normativa/nacional/decreto-274-2019-322236/texto")

## Where does a generic export label fall short for an Argentina-bound shipment?

A label accurate on composition and care under another market's rules can still miss what Argentina's rule checks specifically: the responsible party's tax identification and the exact origin wording format.

Generic label feature

Why it may not satisfy Argentina's requirement

Argentina-specific action

Manufacturer named, no tax identification

Resolución 549 requires the responsible party's fiscal identification

Confirm and add the required tax identification

Origin shown as a bloc or region

Economic-bloc names and flags are insufficient

Use the specific country adjective, e.g. "Industria India"

Care information from another standard

NM ISO 3758:2013 governs the care information; symbols used must meet the sequence and size rules

Confirm the care information, and any symbols, against the Argentine standard

Size omitted

The regulation requires size or dimensions, as applicable

Include the applicable size or dimensions

## How should an Argentina-bound label be approved before bulk?

Confirm the relevant responsible entity's tax identification and role before development samples are finalised. Confirm the origin wording uses the country adjective directly, and check care information against NM ISO 3758:2013's sequence. Where symbols are used, also check their minimum size.

Approval stage

What to lock

Check on the physical garment

Responsible-party confirmation

Correct role and tax identification

Documented before bulk

Origin wording

Country adjective, not a bloc or regional name

"Industria \[country\]" or equivalent phrasing confirmed

Care information

NM ISO 3758:2013 sequence; 16 mm² minimum where symbols are used

Confirmed against the current standard

Bulk inspection

Sealed artwork in the language of the country of consumption

Correct Argentina variant on the correct style and colourway

The [tech pack](/blog/2026/05/garment-tech-pack-guide) should name the confirmed responsible entity and its tax identification, alongside the Argentina label version.

## Short FAQ

**How is apparel-label compliance checked in Argentina?**

The Dirección Nacional de Reglamentos Técnicos verifies compliance in the internal market. Products covered by Resolución 549 must comply with its requirements to be commercialised in that market.

**Does an Argentina-bound label require the responsible party's tax identification?**

Yes. Resolución 549 requires the tax identification of the national manufacturer, importer, exclusive brand or business-name user, or licence holder on the label.

**Can an economic-bloc name replace the country name in the origin statement?**

No. Economic-bloc names and flags are insufficient. The label needs the country adjective itself, in the form "Hecho en," "Fabricado en" or "Industria" plus the country adjective.

**What sizing information is required?**

The textile-labelling regulation requires an indication of size or dimensions, as applicable. It does not prescribe a particular size chart or label design.

**Which care-information standard applies in Argentina?**

NM ISO 3758:2013 governs the care information. It may be presented by symbols, text or both; where symbols are used, each must occupy an imaginary square of at least 16 mm².

## The Argentina label judgement

An Argentina-bound apparel label within the regulation's scope carries Resolución 549's five fields: responsible-party identity with tax identification, country of origin using the country adjective, fibre composition, care treatment under NM ISO 3758:2013, and size or dimensions. The label information must be in the language of the country of consumption, permanent, easy to see and at least 2 mm high. Compliance is verified in the internal market.

## Placing an Argentina-bound programme

A tech pack, destination confirmation, order quantity and label artwork are what we need to quote an Argentina-bound programme with label preparation and approval, including the tax-identification field and correct origin wording, built into the cost. For the wider regional picture, our [Latin America](/markets/latin-america) import guide covers the region an Argentina order typically sits alongside, and our [private label](/services/private-label) programme is where the responsible-party identity and label copy are confirmed before development samples are cut.
